Suppressing the Author’s Name in a Citation
If you’re using an author/date referencing style and don’t want to include the author’s name in a citation, you can suppress it by using a switch. Switches are codes that allow you to make changes to citations or footnotes. There’s a good overview of them at:
http://www.refworks.com/Refworks/help/Modifying_an_In-Text_Citation_or_Footnote.htm
For example, if you want the citation in your final document to look like this:
Smith (2007) argued that …
Add /a to the citation in the unformatted document:
Smith {{1 Smith 2007/a}} argued that …
The a/ should be placed directly after the year of publication.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us (refworks-support@qub.ac.uk) if you have any questions about this or any other aspect of switches.
